About Salana Sailing

Salana Sailing is a family run company. We, Gareth and Anna Maria, have set it up in 2015 after a number of seasons sailing with other companies. One of the things we love doing most is sharing our passion and discovering new locations for sailing. We consider ourselves adventurers and therefore we like to discover new cruising grounds. Plus we want to offer our regular clients different cruising areas.

This year we will mainly be operating in Lanzarote for the winter and in the Azores for summer.

Gareth is originally from Bristol and started sailing whilst working as a Divemaster in Tenerife. Soon after he bought his yacht, Salana. Gareth became a Yachtmaster Instructor in 2011 following two years as a Cruising Instructor and has taught in the Med, UK and the Canary Islands. Gareth’s style is unmistakable, he is very calm and patient at sea, the sea is his home and he transmits this tranquility to whoever is with him on a yacht. A seasoned sailor, and a dedicated instructor, Gareth’s experience is evident in his style which is greatly appreciated by students and guests alike.

Anna Maria is Maltese and speaks English, Italian, French and Maltese fluently. She has been a Cruising Instructor since 2013 and this year she has obtained her Yachtmaster Instructor license. Anna Maria loves doing different things and is currently a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta; an accredited lecturer with the Henley Business School of the University of Reading; she is also the Secretary General to the European Tugowners Association. Anna Maria has sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands, she has also sailed in other areas such as the UK.

Qwerky is part and parcel of the family. he is our little crazy but cute sailing dog. Qwerky was abandoned in Tenerfie and we just could not resist not having him. At 3 months of age he got on the boat and never looked back. he barks orders when there is a simulated man overboard making him our best alarm for an MOB. Qwerky is no pure breed but one cannot not fall in love with him after he cheerfully greets anyone who comes on the boat.
