This summer (2018) we are going to spend our time in Portugal on the Algarve coast. This is a beautiful sailing ground with some outstanding scenery. The average daily temperatures are in the high 20s and average wind speed is 12 knots. We will be based out of Albefeira which is very close to Faro
Our Mediterranean base is in Malta, located in the heart of the Mediterranean, approximately 60nm south of Sicily and 150nm east of Tunisia. Our local cruising grounds cover Malta and the nearby islands of Gozo and Comino. The three islands also provide perfect waters for our training courses – busy harbours, quiet marinas, shallow anchorages and gentle winds. For more adventurous cruising weeks we travel to the nearby Italian islands of Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Linosa and Sicily and in the winter months we follow the sun to the Canary Islands.
The vibrant city of Valletta provides the backdrop to Grand Harbour and from here is it only short hops to tranquil and turquoise anchorages on Malta itself and also to the other Maltese islands of Comino and Gozo.
Sicily is our closest Italian island at around 60NM north of Malta and we have the much smaller and more remote islands of Pantelleria to the north-west and Lampedusa and Linosa to the south-west. A two week cruise provides time to head up the east coast of Sicily and pass through the Messina Straits which separate Sicily from mainland Italy providing the opportunity to visit the Aeolian Islands.
In the winter months we head further south to the Canary Islands. From this base our local cruising waters take in the eastern islands of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria and the western islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife.
We also travel to the Atlantic coast of Morocco to experience some authentic and un-touristic Moroccan towns. We visit several coastal towns including Rabat, Al Jadida, Essaouira and Agadir.
